About Betty Porche
I am a Watercolorist. I began my journey in oils, accomplishing something I had been wanting to do for many years. As a very active wife and Mom, I had decided to wait until my children were grown before immersing myself into painting. I knew it would be time consuming with no turning back. But an unexpected health crisis forced me to slow down and find something quiet to do during my long recovery. Thus I enrolled in college art classes and private lessons with professionals. I began in oils, a medium which allows for rich textures and beautiful brush strokes. I had my first successful exhibit with oil paintings. One day, because of the toxic smell and clean up associated with oils, I tried Watercolors. I was hooked immediately, the soft and delicate movement of paint and water and its amazing results were astounding. I paint mostly from my own photographs, subjects I have to see and feel for myself, getting my own visual and emotional perspective for what makes me want to paint it. I have engaged in hundreds of competitions and fortunate to win many local to national and international awards. My paintings are displayed in galleries and purchased by art lovers. My ultimate joy is in the process of painting, creating a two or three dimensional painting on paper, one that begins with a challenge, and continues with a passion to complete a vision.
